Department of Mechanical Engineering

DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
Department Of Mechanical engineering

Since the inception of the college in 2001, the department of mechanical engineering has been functioning as a supporting department. It has been made a full fledged department with the introduction of B.E. degree program in mechanical engineering during 2009-2010. The department has well experienced and highly qualified faculty members. The department has well equipped state of art workshops and laboratories that cater to the needs of the students.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum of the bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering is designed to promote and enhance knowledge not only in mechanical engineering but also in the fields like Civil, Electrical and Electronics engineering and Management and Computer Applications. In the first year, students are introduced to fundamentals of Engineering Drawing, Computer Aided Drafting, Mechanics and Basic Electrical and Electronics Engineering in addition to mathematics and Science Subjects. From second year to final year, students learn Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Metrology and Measurements, Fluid Mechanics and Machineries, Metallurgy, Engineering Mechanics, Strength of materials, Mechatronics, Engineering Thermodynamics, Thermal Engineering, Heat and Mass Transfer, Design of Machine Elements, Machine Drawing, CAD/CAM, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Finite Element Analysis, Automobile Engineering, Elements of Gas Dynamics and Jet Propulsion, Applied Hydraulics and Pneumatics and Power Plant Engineering. The curriculum also includes Management Subjects namely Principles of Management, TQM and Engineering Economics & Cost Analysis; Electrical and Electronics subjects such as Electrical Devices and Control, Electronics and Microprocessors and a general subject namely Environmental Science.

VISION

To mould the students to become future engineers, scientists, researchers, and innovators and make substantial contributions to the global society in the field of mechanical engineering.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is to be housed in a separate well planned block. It accommodates the following well equipped laboratories required for the curriculum. The major labs are for Manufacturing Technology, CAD, Fluid Mechanics and Machinery, Strength of Materials, Thermal Engineering, CAD/CAM, Metrology and Measurements, Dynamics and Mechatronics.

SCOPE

Mechanical engineering students can find placement in manufacturing and service industries like L&T, Tata, Ashok Leyland, Hyundai, Ford, BHEL, BEML, ONGC, ICF, PWD, Railways Transport Corporation etc. The highly emerging IT industry also provides large number of employment opportunities for mechanical engineers. India’s top IT sectors such as TCS, CTS, Infosys, Wipro & Satyam Computers have been recruiting mechanical engineering graduates in bulk during the recent years. They can also find placement overseas or become entrepreneurs. Mechanical engineers can work in areas of production operations, maintenance, sales etc. as administrators or managers in the above mentioned organizations. The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a wide range of opportunities for the students to pursue higher education, research and development in the fields of Design of Machinery, Production Technology, Industrial Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning, Aeronautical Engineering, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, Automobile Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics in India and abroad.
